Levi Allen: Eight Months

They really do love each other! Daphne has started making up her own songs and they usually consist of Levi and Scout or her friends. Levi can dissolve her bad mood faster than almost anything else and Levi loves when Daphne comes up to him and gives him hugs and kisses.

This has been a weird month for routine. We spent almost a week in New York about halfway through the month and it just plain ruined all of our hard work. For the majority of the month Levi has had a consistent routine, and it only took him a couple days to settle back into it after we got home from New York! He is on a 2.5-3 hour "wake/eat/play" schedule. The times of his routine vary as he wakes up at different times every morning and some days are busier with outings than others.

This month he has been waking up around 6:00 AM to nurse and then we put him right back to sleep. He wakes up for the day between 7 - 8 AM and sometimes I nurse him again and sometimes I go ahead and give him a 4 oz. jar of baby food. Depending on when he woke up for the day we put him down for a nap 1.5 hours after that. For his first nap of the day he will sleep between 1 - 1.5 hours. When he wakes up from that nap we repeat the wake/eat/play structure - adding 4 oz. of baby food 30 minutes - 1 hour after he nurses three times a day. He has been going down for bed between 7 - 7:30 PM.

**The routine while we were in New York City was: SURVIVE. Hah! Levi nursed about every 2 hours pretty consistently the whole trip...even throughout the night. We were all basically operating on about 30 minutes of sleep every night. I ended up deciding not to give him any baby food while we were there which turned out to be a great decision, it just would have been one more thing to worry about and his more frequent nursing meant that he was getting enough to eat anyway. Most evenings we didn't get home before 11 PM to put him to bed - so he was ironically too exhausted to sleep. Nursing seemed to be the only thing to keep him from screaming and give us even just a little bit of rest.

  • Levi loves music in a special way, I have never seen a baby get so lost in it before. It truly reminds me of Carson and I love it.

  • He is a Mama's boy without a doubt. I've heard its a boy thing, and I am loving it.

  • Bouncing in his exerciser - he can bounce in that thing for forever!

  • Nestor - his wubbanub

  • Talking - its precious. And he loves to mimic sounds!

  • Rolling over and scooting around - the boy is on the move!
  • Looking at himself in the mirror!
  • Playing with his red piano!

This is probably one of my favorite pictures of all time. My men.

  • Weight: Haven't weighed him since his last appointment.
  • Length: Haven't measured him since his last appointment.
  • Clothing: Levi still wears 6-9 month clothes.
  • Diapers: Levi is still wearing size 3 diapers.

I was dancing around the room with Levi last week to one of my favorite artists (Christy Nockels) and was suddenly overcome with emotion and the weight of the moment. I wanted to capture it so I snapped this picture with my self-timer on my iPhone. These years at home go by so fast, I want to press into as many moments like these as I can.

  • Levi has started to scoot and pull himself across the room! He is so determined!

  • Levi can sit up for longer periods of time with no help, especially when he's playing his little piano.

  • Levi had his first visit to New York City with Mom and Dad and the church choir!

  • Levi had his first visit to Carnegie Hall - maybe he'll be back again someday :)
  • Levi had his first trip in an airplane for the first time (outside the womb haha) as we traveled to NYC!
  • Levi rode in the swings at the park!
  • We had our first mother + son breakfast date!
  • Levi was dedicated the Lord this month - we prayed for the wisdom to parent him and bring him up in the Lord!
  • Levi visited Brooklyn Tabernacle in New York City for the first time!
Levi's first flight! He did so well!

Arrived safely at our hotel in Times Square!

It rained one of the days that we were there and I was so thankful that I brought this stroller cover to keep Levi dry! He was blissfully unaware as to how cold and rainy it really was in NYC, haha!

Levi captured so many hearts on our trip with his big ol' happy grin.

Having dinner in the city with some of our family group, these people were so gracious to us and we loved spending time with them!

Our family group served at the New York City Rescue Mission!

It was so great to catch up with cousin, who lives in New York, while we were there. We hadn't seen each other in 12 years!

Church at Brooklyn Tabernacle, the music was incredible!

Our best friends brought their little boy to New York as well. He and Levi are exactly 4 weeks apart! They both did surprisingly well and we truly did enjoy our time there. It may have taken us about a week or so to recover, but we really did enjoy the trip!

  • When Mom walks away from him!

  • Waiting for milk! He is a relatively easy baby and truly doesn't cry often, but when he does it is LOUD and it is almost always for milk. Even if he randomly wakes up in the middle of the night SCREAMING, he will not calm down until he gets some milk in his belly - it doesn't happen often but it's always cuz he's hungry.

  • 7 month pp skin breakouts
  • post partum skin
  • carnegie hall infant allowed
  • are babies allowed in broadway shows (hahahaha)
My Momma flew in to watch Daphne while we took Levi to New York. She stayed for a few more days after we got back so she could visit with us (let's face it, mostly Levi and Daphne) a little bit longer. I love how comfortable the kids are with her and how much they love her! Daphne had an especially hard time when we dropped Mom off at the airport. Oh how I wish that we all lived closer.

Levi nurses 6-7 times a day, every 2-3 hours. He has been nursing on one side per feeding for about 5 minutes or so. He has also been getting a 4 oz. jar about 30 min - 1 hour after nursing for breakfast and another 4 oz. jar after his lunch nursing session. He gets 4 oz. of baby food 45 min - 1 hour after his evening nursing session for dinner.

I have been trying to track which foods he has tasted to take notice of any allergic reactions, he maybe gets a new flavor every 2-3 days and so far he has had no reactions. We have introduced green beans, spinach, mangos, apricots, blueberries and winter squash (I'm sure I'm leaving out a few...).

The snuggles have become fewer these days so I soak them up every chance I get.

Levi consistently sleeps in his minky sleep sack, we only switch back to the zipadee zip if we are washing the sleep sack. He continues to take all his naps and sleeps at night in his pack and play in our room. He usually naps for about 1 - 2 hours at a time and he typically takes 3 naps a day. He goes down for the night around 7:30 PM. He now puts himself to sleep really well! I've stopped rocking him, not really out of intentionality as much as busyness, and I totally regret it! He has a harder time snuggling now before naps and bedtime.

  • Imitates sounds and some gestures
  • Recognizes himself in the mirror
  • Practicing crawling

  • Levi has been pretty healthy this month, which is a little shocking to me considering all of the stuff going around! He had a little bit of congestion earlier in the month and a little during New York City but nothing crazy.

  • Similac App to track feedings

  • Taking Levi back to Tulsa for my sister-in-law and brother-in-law's baby shower!

It was such a special time as we dedicated Levi to the Lord at our church a couple weeks ago! My friend shared a verse in 2 Timothy that she is praying over her own son and it really resonated with me as I am currently studying that book! We pray this passage over our son's life and pray for the wisdom to bring him up to love and know the Lord; "...from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus." 2 Timothy 3:15
